During the 2026–27 season, the Anaheim Ducks are set to retire Ryan Getzlaf’s No. 15 jersey, one of the all-time great players in franchise history. With the emotional ceremony beginning Jan. 30, 2027, in front of the Nashville Predators in Honda Center, it’s a momentous night for both organization and their fans. Getzlaf is only the fourth Duck to be honored with the award.
The word came in a heartfelt surprise as Ducks owner Henry and Susan Samueli called Ducks home to deliver the news. The moving video struck the right chord with hockey enthusiasts, and not just because it showed just how much respect and admiration it has for its legendary captain. Among the many attributes the Samuelis singled out for tribute to Getzlaf include leadership and commitment to the Anaheim community as well as on-ice contributions.
Drafted by the Ducks in 2003, Getzlaf played the entire 17-season stretch with the Ducks. Retired after the 2021-22 season, during which he posted his twenty-fifth Power Five career game in 1156 games played, 1019 points, and 737 assists for Anaheim, his team’s trio of NFL titles. He also has a pair of franchise highs in points and power-play points and a pair of Ducks history game-winners among his pointers and ranks among the top scorers in the franchise in all games.

In 2007, one of Getzlaf’s best moments was steering Anaheim to its first and only Stanley Cup in a series where he was the lead scorer overall, and the top goal scorer in the 2006 playoffs. He went on to spend 12 seasons as team captain which made him the face of Ducks hockey and the longest serving captain in franchise history.
The jersey retirement for the Ducks will accompany a weekend celebration commemorating the 20-year anniversary of the Duck’s Stanley Cup team from 2007, which takes place at the beginning of that week. Retired No. 8 jersey Teemu Selanne, retired No. 9 jersey Paul Kariya and retiredNo-27 jersey Scott Niedermayer will hang with his No. 15, cementing his legacy inside Anaheim’s all-time great collection of jerseys on the wall for good reason.
