After a Brayden Schenn Trade, Blues Head Coach John Farmer will assume the role of Blues Hand Captaincy, taking over from Robert Thomas.
It is becoming clear the St. Louis Blues are under new leadership, and that chapter is about to begin with Robert Thomas becoming their new captain. Thomas will become the 25th captain in Blues’ history and will be in control of a team undergoing major changes.
Thomas has been a major cog on the Blues’ wheels since he was selected 20th overall this past year also. The 27-year-old center has averaged a point more in each of the last three seasons for the Saints. He was a lead score for the team again last season on 64 points in 64 regular-season games.
Thomas is also taking full responsibility, as it were, as the captaincy also shows his growth as a leader. Coach Jim Montgomery said Thomas was getting into the locker room more and performing in various ways, such as helping younger teammates and assisting in the team’s reaction during tough times, after his trade.

Schenn was named to lead the Blues after succeeding in 2023 and the club traded him on March 6th. In the trade, St. Louis got a 2026 first-round pick, a third-round selection, forward Jonathan Drouin and goaltending prospect Marcus Gidlof.
Thomas’ team will also have support from a team of substitute captains: Colton Parayko, Philip Broberg, Jake Neighbours and Dylan Holloway. The new leadership group is indicative of how Blues have become a younger organisation with a grown core of experienced people around the team.
