The Carolina Hurricanes will open the 2026-27 NHLA season in battleground Lenovo Center, Raleigh, with a celebration of their new trophy before facing the Florida Panthers. Carolina will be last up to raise its second Stanley Cup championship banner on September 29, 2026, before hosting Florida for the season opener.
The Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in six games to win the Stanley Cup for 2026. This was Carolina’s second title, with their first coming in 2006. Carolina also concluded a four-year run of 16-3 records in the postseason, so the banner ceremony was also a significant event for the organization and the fans.
Add to that because of the Florida’s consecutive Stanley Cup win in 2024 and 2025 in the opening-night matchup. The Panthers will then come into the game with the back-to-back defending Champion title just lost by Carolina. The teams also have a turbulent playoff history going back only recently, having met in the Eastern Conference Final in 2023 and 2025.

It is set to begin at 5 p.m. ET and will make the network’s first night debut in the U.S. The NHL is in the midst of kicking off its 2026-27 season at an early date after the league agreed to increase the regular season length to 84 games per team in the 2020-21 season. With the regular season expanded from 74 games to 84 games per team in the 2020-21 season, the NHL is starting its 2026-27 season early.
The Hurricanes also have a special celebration promotion for fans who come to see them play at the opening game. One more addition to the night’s theme of “championship,” everyone will get a replica Stanley Cup champions banner to go home with.
As the championship banner marches into the game, Carolina’s first ever home game of the new season will offer a warm reminder of its success in 2026 and the beginning of a new campaign.
