The Detroit Red Wings have managed to emerge victorious against their eastern rivals from the Atlantic Division, namely the Buffalo Sabres, in one of their preseason games played at Little Caesars Arena, by a score of 3-2 in overtime. This was a very exciting game that had veterans and rookies playing on each side of the game.

Buffalo took the lead in the first period as forward Trevor Kuntar made good use of the chaos in front of the net, banging home a rebound. The early advantage for the Sabres was enhanced by a goal scored in the second period on the power play, where forward Jiří Kulich converted a well-played setup from rookie Noah Östlund with a precise one-timer, beating Detroit’s goalkeeper Daniil Tarasov in the process and giving his team a 2-1 lead.
However, Buffalo encountered an injury problem in the first period when their starting goalie Alex Lyon left the game due to an upper-body injury after another goalmouth scramble. The backup goalie, Colten Ellis, made some great saves to keep Buffalo up by that score for the first two periods.
Detroit managed to change pace quite dramatically in the third period through offensive zone pressure. The persistence eventually got rewarded, as center Sheldon Dries found himself in the slot and tipped in a shot from the point to tie the game at 2-2 and send it to overtime.
With Detroit enjoying a 4-3 power play through the additional period, forward Alex DeBrincat scored the winning goal 30 seconds into overtime. After taking a pass from the left faceoff circle, DeBrincat released a quick wrister that ended up finding its way into the upper corner, giving Detroit a 3-2 victory.
