Saint-Boniface is in the midst of its Hockeyville moment. The small Quebec community that won the 2025 Kraft Hockeyville contest is celebrating big time, with Montreal Canadiens legend Yvan Cournoyer and the Stanley Cup coming to town to create memories for all ahead of a special preseason game.
A Legend and the Cup Arrive

Cournoyer is a long-time ambassador of the Canadiens, and the Stanley Cup champion 10 times over. Giving the trophy to him provided a rare opportunity for residents to stand next to one of the most decorated players in franchise history and the final prize in the sport.
The visit is part of a variety of events set for Hockeyville, including arena renovations and community activities. Saint-Boniface was awarded $250,000 to upgrade Arena de Saint-Boniface and youth equipment, all of which will help the local players for years to come.
It’s a timely event. Cournoyer’s career was all with Montreal, and his presence bridges the grassroots love of the game with the professional. Those who have worked hard to get the vote for the country are now able to enjoy the celebration with a player who understands what the Cup means.
More Than a Trophy Visit
Since the beginning, Hockeyville has been about celebrating communities that sustain the game at its roots. The victory brings tangible benefits to Saint-Boniface, as it will improve its rink and provide the opportunity to host events related to the NHL for the first time.
For those who don’t get to see hockey up close, it’s even more interesting to see the Canadiens play the Ottawa Senators in the nearby Canadian city of Trois-Rivières in the preseason. The Stanley Cup came to town for Cournoyer and the focus remained on shared pride not ceremony.
A community that rallied around itself to be called Hockeyville is now able to reap the results: a legend, the Cup, and the fact that their rink and their love of the game are significant. Saint-Boniface’s celebration is quite deserved.
