Germany proved to be true to their tactical nature as they defended their FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup title by seeing off Spain 1-0 on Sunday, 30th August 2026, at Belfius Hockey Arena to claim their fourth World Cup winner’s trophy on an equal footing with Pakistan as the two nations holding the most men’s field hockey titles. The lone goal of the final, which determined all, was slotted in by Germany’s Michel Struthoff late in the third quarter. Capitalizing on a quick build-up attack, Struthoff was able to scoop it past the Spanish custodian, Luis Calzado.

With the better portion of possession and a variety of penalty corners during the course of the match, Spain failed to breach Germany’s highly organized defense.
The Spanish withdrew their custodian from the field with little under 4 minutes on the clock in their attempt to score an equalizer in favour of an additional field player, putting tremendous pressure on Germany’s defence, which was firm enough until the final hooter. A really crazy feeling right now. I am so happy for the team. It’s great to have such a young side right now, expressed Struthoff to reporters after the tie. It’s nice feeling going into the next international matches with this momentum too, added skipper Tom Grambusch of Germany.
Moreover, Argentina secured a bronze medal with the same scoreline by defeating the Netherlands in the bronze match played today in the same field.
