Ryan Warsofsky is staying put in San Jose. The Sharks, having eliminated any doubt about the future of their youthful head coach, locked him into a multi-year extension on the opening day of training camp.
A Belief That Runs Both Ways

When Warsofsky joined as an assistant, he moved into the No. 1 role in 2024 and made his presence felt soon after. The Sharks came out of the basement last season, more than doubling their wins, and remaining in the playoff conversation well into the spring. This type of transformation is not likely to fall into place without effort.
It’s a matter of trust between coach and players and a front office that won’t suffocate the process. General manager Mike Grier announced Warsofsky’s extension in a quiet pre-season act of faith. It’s a message of great significance for a coach who’s still in his 30s: The organization doesn’t see him as a quick fix, but as a long-term solution.
Room to Keep Growing
The Sharks are no longer just surviving, but they’re also thriving. Continuity behind the bench is important with young players developing and expectations getting higher. Warsofsky has demonstrated his ability to develop players and change the culture. Now he is given the opportunity to do so without an end date on every early result looming.
The man at the helm in San Jose will be the same guy who got them off the blocks on the new season, when the puck drops. The multiyear pledge isn’t just a piece of paper. It is a common understanding that what has already been accomplished is just a starting point.
